Factoids Bringing In Your Equipment

Bringing In Your Equipment

Are you planning on bringing in some equipment for repair or upgrade?

We only need the basics, save yourself some trouble!

When visiting our Service Centre, it is always best to contact us first to discuss your requirements and save any disappointment if we are very busy. When you are ready to leave home, please make sure you follow these simple rules.

Windows Certificate Of Authenticity

We will not repair any computer that doesn't have a valid Microsoft COA (if running Windows). This is a sticker that is normally attached to the side or back of your computer case (or underneath on a laptop). If you have an illegal copy of Windows, we will charge you for a full copy of the current version and install it for you (we do not need to notify Microsoft; additional charges will apply). Sometimes the COA is still in its packaging (with any CDs/Manuals that were given to you). If upgrading your computer please also read the OEM guide. Please find more information on the Microsoft website.

Installation Discs

If you are coming in for Software Repair, Virus Removal, Windows upgrade etc - please make sure you bring in any CDs/DVDs that were given to you when you bought your computer. Some manufacturers make it hard for us to make repairs without these discs (not impossible, but it may take longer which can cost more).

Desk Computers

We only need the faulty part, so if your computer is faulty (e.g. not booting) then we need:

  • Computer/Box
  • Check COA is attached

But not:

  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Cables

Laptops

Please bring in the following:

  • Power Supply
  • Battery
  • Check COA is attached
  • External Mouse, Drives etc (Unless it is part of the fault).

Safety

If bringing in a laptop, then make sure you put it in your sleeve or case. If you are transferring a desk computer, or something else bulky like a monitor or printer, then place carefully in your car boot, making sure that it is pushed up against one side and if possible, with something resting next to it to stop movement. If you need to put it in the passenger area, the best method is placing it on the back seat of your car and putting a seat belt around it, making sure both strips of belt are across the box and tight before setting off. This is the recommended method when bringing in monitors - make sure the glass is covered with a cloth/sheet and facing into the seat. Generally, the less bumpy your journey, the better.

Security

When you get to the Service Centre, we will take a look at your equipment and then issue you with a receipt. Please only sign this if you are happy we have noted everything down. We will ask you to write down any password you use, which will be stored separately to your computer. We advise you to change your passwords on return. You should never keep banking information or passwords on your computer.
